The short: Worth a look if you are searching for “the” light fixture—and you have the $$, or are willing to save up for a bit. Staff are super friendly and helpful, plus the stock is really nice, and feels a bit special compared to the other lighting stores I’ve been in.

The long: When I went by, I was probably looking a bit tired and windswept, and I hesitated for a minute outside of the store. My vibe is more “fat, friendly American who will speak bad French to you” vs “chic, willowy blonde lady who wears snow boots with wedge heels”, so I wondered if I was gonna have one of those uncomfortable Pretty Woman moments where This Place is Not for You even if I could afford the products. But I went in, because the lights I could see from the window were just a bit different.

And the salespeople? Super nice. Took the time to talk with me about my vibe, show me stuff within my price point, and flip thru other options in the catalog even though I was obviously just browsing. I won’t lie, getting professional, non-pushy service from someone you can tell has the confidence that comes from expertise is apparently my love language, and this place has a lot of that.

The prices for me were in what I’d call the investment-level; you can check the website for the specifics. I’m not gonna walk in and throw that money around real easily but if it’s the forever lamp? Maybe. I realized after taking 2 years to find a good dining room overhead light—during which we had no ceiling light!!!—that I’m real picky about lighting, and I can’t bring myself to buy just anything. We are getting ready to renovate our kitchen, and a special lighting fixture is something I have decided to splurge on.

Later, when I am ready to get something for that renovation, or really work stuff out in my living room, I will certainly check back at DECA. I am not just dropping over $1k on a lamp or $5k on something bigger without thinking about it, but I have learned that good, well-designed, unique lighting fixtures and good service give me pleasure. This store has both, and it’s worth checking out if that sentiment appeals to you.
