Disappointed with Quality and Experience

I recently purchased fence boards from the RONA Simcoe location to use for Christmas gift projects. I had previously bought boards from the Ancaster location and had a great experience there, but decided to support a smaller, local business in Simcoe instead. Unfortunately, my experience here was incredibly disappointing…

The wood is stored outdoors, and when I picked it up, the boards were soaking wet, covered in snow and ice. I had to spend significant time and effort drying them out, which delayed my projects of sanding and painting them. Even worse, the quality of the boards was terrible—many had large cracks that I had to repair with wood glue, and some had chunks missing from the ends.

I understand some imperfections can be expected with wood, but this was far beyond what I anticipated. I expected better care and quality from this store. Unfortunately, I will not be returning and will take my business back to locations like Ancaster, where the products and experience have been much better.

Went into the store to look for a range hood; we were very fortunate to be waited on by a gentlemen by the name of Earl. He was very understanding that I personally didn't know much about this item, but, he took the time to explain and suggested getting the charcoal filters, and the reason behind that. Very patient, caring and kind.

Really disappointed in the location for a number of reasons, 1/ When I called numerous times no one answers the phone most of the time and when they do they transfer you and that department does not pick up. 2/ When I went to the store and found line ups to pay only one line open and other girls nearby just standing around and talking, indoor customer service is 1 out of 5. 3/ I need some material in the yard so they told me to go look but when I got there I found a variety is items but NOTHING is priced so you have to go all the way back into the store to find someone who can give you the pricing on multiple items, WHAT A PAIN that was. I will say the outside staff were very helpful loading items I purchased, no complaints there, , They definitely need to work on the instore staff, not very focused at all on customer service at all.

Overpriced junky lumber. They pick it for you so you can't see what your getting. Every piece was warped. I also needed a board for a floor repair, which were inside. There were 5 on the shelf and every one was damaged, warped and old. Looked like it was a big sheet, used in the yard and then cut down and put on the shelf for sale.

Drove over an hour to this store after being assured the product was in stock. Hours say until 8 pm on Google and the website. We arrived at 6:30 PM and the store is closed and a sign on the door with seasonal hours showing open till 6PM.

Service has gotten terrible again.

Open ended delivery schedules. Best they can tell me for example is "Late morning". How do I plan my day as a contractor with that? A one hour window is acceptable.

Getting through to some one. Good luck. Maybe they are understaffed?

Getting estimates sometimes takes weeks. I cant wait for weeks as my clients sure wont.

On plus side. Their contractor desk is good.

Eric was super nice and helpful when we went to simcoe Rona today! He tried everything he could so that my husband could find what he was looking for! Also gave very helpful suggestions. He was very polite and great at his job!

After pricing around we found most stores very evenly priced for the most part. What sealed the deal for us was the service we received both in the past but in particular that day. From the estimate to delivery we were served with professionalism, patience and curtesy. Thank you for all your help. Much appreciated.
